ok, the a-hole apparently sent my boyfriend a picture message from his phone. I got him a CD he wanted plus a canister of candy (Snickers, Reeses, Kit Kat, etc). To be perfectly honest .. this sounds like something that is tormenting you because you are intimidated by him for being successful, where you feel you are not up to his par.
First off .. talking about career doesn't even have to come into play at all during a date .. yet, you are stressing over thinking you HAVE to discuss this. Which indicates to me that you are likely concerned that being successful is a big-deal breaker for him. When I would date, back in the day .. first dates didn't usually consist of talking about careers, we were more into talking about common interests.
Second .. you don't even want to talk about it, yet, are the one trying to decide on how to broach the topic first .. which is another indicator that you feel intimidated by his success, so feel compelled to make this into something than it has to be.
There's much more to life and a person besides their career .. if you are going to start off the relation stressing about your self-worth in his eyes .. then you might fail to be confident within your own sense of self-worth. It sounds like you are more worried about he feels about your integrity, than what you carry of dignity for yourself.
I don't mean that in a bad way .. I just mean that it doesn't matter whether you are working right now, as far as whether you are a wonderful potential partner for another person, and if you look to that other person to validate it for you, by letting him be the judge of you and your career .. then it's just not right.
You are who you are, regardless of your work ... hold your head high and allow yourself to be the judge of your goals.
