Word. I am not going to sit here and make it seem like prejudice and racism not being the same thing isn't a bit mystifying since you can't engage in racist thought without being prejudiced. But they are different in an absolute sense.
But bear with me some:
Prejudice and racism both refer to a negative view of one group of people based solely on their membership in that group. Right?
In that sense both prejudice and racism sprout from the same seed but racism is in fact a special form of prejudice.
Prejudice is when a person negatively pre-judges another person or group without getting to know the beliefs, thoughts, and feelings behind their words and actions. A person of any racial group can be prejudiced towards a person of any other racial group because there is no power dynamic that must be observed....legal and institutional (societal) authority need not be examined. There is no power dynamic that need be involved for someone to be considered prejudiced.
Bigotry is a stronger form of prejudice, a more severe and uncompromising mindset marked by hatred and intolerance and often accompanied by discriminatory behavior (verbal attacks against that group, physical attacks on that group, trolling because of that group identity, etc) . As racial justice educator and writer Debby Irving stated: It’s arrogant and mean-spirited, but requires neither systems nor power to engage in."
Racism spefically, involves the maintenance and utilization of prejudicial attitudes and thoughts, institutions and/or systems, or bigoted behavior towards members of an ethnic group for the conscious/unscious purpose of keeping that ethnic group subordinate:

When looking at say Liam Neeson:
What was prejudiced? The unstated but likely belief that all blacks are equally culpable for each others crimes. What was bigoted?: His devotion to those prejudices to the point that he sought to wage violence because of them...was bigoted behavior. What was racist?: Maintaining innocence in the face of overwhelming evidence of prejudice and bigotry.
Dazed helped me a little, but I think this will too, in understanding this stance.
