I can’t stand being told what to do and he’s already told me that he can help me with life in general since he knows so much about lots of things.
He told me I need to let him help with stuff.

In my experience, they initiate when they have something to say. Never a test. They like some space instead of ultimate clinginess. But not too much. I’ve always preferred conversations on the phone or in person rather than texts with an aqua.
