Cancers are busy people.
(Yeah, Crabs can have a lot of balls in the air).
I would *almost* suggest he may have some doubts. Not about you personally OP, but the whole dynamic (two different countries, hes an athlete and work has him going, etc.).
If he's that involved, him setting aside time to communicate means something.

The strangest thing about my Gemini Mars (Gem Moon Conjunct Mars) is getting horny out of some small repetitive irritation. It can turn into an orgasm.
It's like how the hulk (in the TV series) could turn from stumping his toe). For me it's like accidental repeated typos, auto-correct battles, pencil lead continuously breaking, some intricate tooling gone awry, any three stooges type mishap, or some time constraint involving a small lapse in memory. I literally passed through Keleti station a week before a bunch of migrants showed up. I had locals in several places sharing "discomfort" with the conduct of "migrants".
It's one of those potential powder keg things.
I don't engage in conspiracy theories except as entertainment.
That said....
It's one thing to put up with politically correct bullshit, it's quite another to have an incident on the scale of Notre Dame as an international act.
