The wedding was planned for May. A few weeks before, she tricked a colleague of hers into taking the job in that village. She came home crying crocodile tears that a rogue person stole the job from under her nose. And what now...is Aqua going to abandon her...?!!!!

Depending on state (or country) - if you're married and things fell apart - while divorcing your partner everything both of you own - gets divided between both parties (more for the woman - if there's a child involved). Since that's not the case with unmarried couple - it's highly recommended to make a contract which states the monitory investment of each party. A proof of ownership/investment - which can serve as proof in case of brake-up.

Or else you could end-up fighting each-other in court - and without proof... be it as revenge or to get more money out of it - one of the parties could lie (and there's no way of proving that). Even if things go really well between you too right now - there's no way of telling how things could go when shit hits the fan (the reasons behind a brake up are rarely characterized by a mutual agreement - where both parties decided to let each-other go - in peaceful terms).
Anyway, this is the safe approach (there's no room for regrets - just in case...).
