It is very interesting you should say that because it has already been a year. He keeps getting warm and retreating. But we have conversations that last hours and hours about Philosophy, ethics, religion, etc
He was lovely whenever we have met.
He does love historical books and biography, not so much fiction.
He has been going through a depressive episode though but he has told me he really likes me but is just struggling.
He has been in relationships before though but he told me they didn't say nice things about him and called him boring and boring at sex too.
So far from criticism of his lover he was critical of himself.

We seem critical but we can be very insecure because perfection is all we see.

I’ll give my opinion since I’m dating a Virgo with Virgo mercury, Venus, and Mars.
He likes how cold I am. He didn’t show me a lot of affection in the beginning but used to nag me for it in return. I mirror and it was a problem for him. But in the end I figured out that he actually likes my coldness and likes nagging me about it in hopes for me to change. This behavior is what keeps me uninterested in him long term.
I’m not cold when I love someone and I think if I started being affectionate he wouldn’t like it.
Edited to add - He completely changed once I cut him off and moved on. Now all I get is affection from him. But it ended up being too late because I’ve fallen for someone else.
I think you should withhold affection and let him work for it. Show indifference and don’t bring it up to him. He’ll come around after a while.
The Virgo that I like is the complete opposite. He only has a Virgo sun.
He needs affection and can’t get enough of it and I find myself being embarrassed by it, but forcing myself to do it, say it and show it. I prefer this because I am cold naturally and he’s pushing me out of my comfort zone and forcing me to be better. He’s making me work for him.

You should. He knows you want a relationship, he says he’s not ready but he is still doing things that shows he’s supporting a possible one but you aren’t happy with this and want words, which actually mean nothing with out actions.
Pull back like he’s doing. Mirror him. You’ve had so much contact with him that he will miss you when you’re gone and it will kick him into gear for a chase.

You didn’t do anything, just didn’t want to keep reaching out first. So it’s up to you. If you were the once reaching out and he started getting slow with responding, I think you should still wait a little. He needs to show some interest. But Virgos can go a long time in between texts.
It just depends on what you want to do.
