This is my first time owning a dog in 20 years. As most of you know, I am very animal friendly and have two cats as well and I have owned mice, turtles, etc.

So, I am noticing what appears to be a ridiculous anti-dog sentiment in my neighborhood where people do not even want a dog to pee. Dogs pee all the time when you walk them. How do you stop a dog from peeing when you take your dog for a walk?

As a matter of fact, I am not taking my dog for a walk but actually taking myself of a walk as I need to get up from the desk periodically and stretch my legs during the day.

When I first started walking my dog, I noticed a bad vibe from the people that lived at the end of the sidewalk. This a community sidewalk and community yards as this is a townhouse community with HOA that includes extensive lawn maintenance. I even saw one of the females chasing kids like an idiot. Apparently, they played a prank and this is the woman with the sign in her yard about “be respectful, no pee or poo.”

One neighbor had a habit of taking her dogs out to poo/pee at a designated area with no leash – a pit and a boxer and on three occasions her dogs jumped me and my Minnie chorkie. Do you know that she had the nerve a few days later to ask me not to have my chorkie pee in her yard. I quickly reminder her of the leash law, that I was jumped three times by her dogs not wearing leashes and there is no law against pee but there is a leash law. Are they crazy?

Are these people crazy? Should I ignore them? Should I avoid them. There is no anti-peeing signs. Only signs about fines for not having your dog on a leash and not picking up poo. So where do they get off saying no pee? Is this about me? Perhaps COVID pet buying increase has made more animals in the neighborhood than usual. But to stop dogs from peeing really? It is near impossible. I guess I could pull her leash to make her stop. Afterall, she isn’t really peeing. She seems to be marking like a male.

I don't think its about preventing your dog from peeing as that is the reason you're taking him/her out correct? It's about letting your dog take a piss on the person's lawn as the acid destroy anything growing there. It's an annoyingly expensive task to upkeep a lawn and I wouldn't want to see burn spots because someone doesn't know how/want to tug a leash and direct their dog elsewhere to do its business. It's about being considerate of someone's personal property given there is more than enough sidewalk to let a dog piss.

Tbh, I'm less of a fan of dog owners than the dogs themselves because many owner tend to be very inconsiderate.

The tiny lawns are maintained by the HOA...even replaced. The one with pits lied like she had the lawn replaced like I'm some brand new idiot. The lawn was never replaced in the 2.5 years I lived here.

The reason for me taking my dog out, as I stated above, is to stretch my legs and because dogs love to go for walks. My little tiny chorkie dances excitedly when she knows she's going for a walk. I can let my dog pee in my yard if it's about peeing.

Fair enough. Regardless of who covers the maintenance of the lawn (which technically you all do through HOA---an unnecessary expense imo--but I digress), it's still unsightly if having a well maintained lawn is important to you--to each their own. Given she made a point of asking you to not let your dog piss on her lawn suggest that may be the issue though. That or:

- she's the neighbourhood bully.

- she's an old cantankerous woman.

- she has a personal dislike for you and your tiny dog.

- all of the above.

I wouldn't avoid her, you have a right to walk your dog and enjoy the community as much as she does. Just keep the dog off her property and tell her to go spin somewhere. You wrote she and they, is she the only one complaining, or do other neighbours have signs up?

The one I saw angrily chasing children has the sign.

This is a very extensive HOA. They even to the roof and siding replacement, add fresh mulch, you name it...all outside repair, replacement, and maintenance...

I have this strange feeling that the one with the pit and boxer that jumped me and my dog was strangely trying to save face with a "counter complaint." Which is still ridiculous in comparison as her offense, no leash, is against the law. And, I told her that much.

You're probably right about the counter complaint. However if she has no evidence your dog every pissed on her lawn she's fishing. Did you or your dog suffer any injuries, aside from probably being startled? I'm guessing your dog has some anxiety being around that dog?

I wished it had been one conversation, but no: decades of curated, protected nothingness. The evening was a synthesis of two vacuums. But feel free to pay attention to the less important part of the post.

What’s of interest to someone else doesn’t have to be of interest to you. The earth signs enjoyed their conversation.

We all can’t cry and comfort, in unison, like the water signs can. 😅

Of course talking without some sort of emotion is boring for you lol.
