It's a very interesting show for sure. The concept is out there, but I'm sure something like that exists in real life, we're just not aware about it and to what degree.

Growing up we always did Christmas Eve at home with mom and she let us each pick an appetizer or two and that's what we had. I remember stuffed mushrooms, bread sticks, spinach artichoke dip (warm, with bread).. either meatballs or the little smokies (sauce varied).. twice baked taters or tater skins.. um, deviled eggs, stuff like that.. we always had chocolate pudding pie for dessert and also I made chocolate covered cherries, pretzels and we almost always had a few types of cookies.
Christmas Day was always with our dads - if they had plans that year for us. My dad's side was usually a ham dinner - rolls, mashed potatoes, veggies, pies n cookies n all the goodies (Gramma was a baker).. always had homemade Chex mix (mm!)..
Other family - party potatoes (basically mashed taters baked with lots of butter, cream cheese, sour cream, herbs mixed in).. rosettes, lefse..

We did cheesy taters n ham a couple years.. also bacon wrapped meatloaf one year (that was delish!).. but I always remember the Holidays being more of an appetizer vibe at least at home with the parental n siblings

best xmas meal I ever had was lobster breakfast buffet in W.Australia but it was like 110 degrees outside so you didn't want to eat hot roast turkey

We only ever got them for Turkey Day or Christmas. Wonder why.. couldn't be because they are loaded with all the bad-for-you-but-so-delish things! Lol. We only ever had them this time of year, maybe for both holidays if we asked Gramma enough lol. As an adult tho.. I make them randomly through the year when I want a comfort meal.. and literally that's all I will eat, sometimes a veggie on the side to make myself feel a little better about eating all that lol. So delish tho!
Chives, salt n pepper, parsley, butter (both mixed in n some dotted on top while it bakes).. some cream cheese, sour cream, I like to add a splash of milk.. mix that all up n out it in a baking dish, put some butter on then sprinkle paprika all over the top (to taste) n bake at 350 until it's all melty n bubbly n smelling amazeballs.
Ooh also sometime in junior high my stepdad came across hot pepper jelly served over cream cheese n you eat it with crackers or like pretzel sticks, etc.. so that's always a favorite of ours too
Black-eyed peas with ham hocks for sure for New Years.
