I once “crushed” for a decade on a Cambridge professor who was a high flyer in our field. I “knew” him from his publications, and only got to be meet him once a year at a conference, where we exchanged a few words and glances. He was also impressed with my work (and possibly with our undeniable chemistry between us) and offered to write me a reference whenever I wanted to progress my career.
A part of me always wanted to impress him…with my professional achievements, of course. In a way, he was my muse….

I wouldn't have wanted "something" to happen irl, because he was a married man with young children. However, I loved to fantasise about us working together on a mind blowing, crazy project or attending conferences all over the world and flirting with each other a bit. Was an entirely platonic relationship, even in my dreams

“Blessed” is a term used mainly by religious people to mean “lucky”. It suggests that someone else (God or other imaginary being) is that active part in your happiness, while in contrast, being “lucky” implies randomness.
Yes, some people are clearly luckier than others, starting with what they were born into. After that, luck means that certain conditions aligned for something to happen, which statistically is bound to happen, even if rarely. Like typing all the correct numbers on a lotto ticket. Statistically speaking, someone is about to do it when the number of people playing outnumbers the possible combinations. Nature -and therefore luck- is ruled by mathematics.
