Well, I'm always a sucker for love, but I'm with you on the friends thing. I am not one to need gobs of friends just to feel like I am liked or whatever. I have always had a few (2 or 3) core friends, although they have not always been the same friends...they change over time. Others are "people I know". Not many people, especially women, appeal to me friendship-wise. I find them dull or too conservative. As far as why I'm always a sucker for love is because that person takes on the role of A#1 best friend, lover and companion...what could be better?
