It's quite strange that nobody ever made a fuss over his birthday, but I never have over mine either.
No big parties or lots of friends over.. it's just a day like any other day.
Just tell him 'this is an excuse to give you something extra nice' and then you kiss him bigtime
He might blush or pretend he's all together, but he'll melt over time

Yes, all of them, as are all of the original Dubs. I'd never heard of the Clancy Brothers until I was in Dublin a few years ago.

my grandparents were sharecroppers. my great-grandparents were sharecroppers and my great-great-grandparents...???
i had the fortune of knowing my great-grandmother on my gma's side. she died when i was like 6 or 7, but i can still see her in my mind's eye. i used to love/hate visiting her because going to her home was like being in a time warp. we're talking bedpans next to the bed because she hated to hear the toilet flush at night. not to mention an outhouse which i thought was sooo cool and thus, my campaign to eradicate toilets makes perfect sense. penny candy, glass soda bottles, dirt roads, pitch black nights...
maybe it's because i was robbed of the origin of who i am, who i came from, what they aspire to be and the knowledge of what ultimately became of them is why this all matters so much. sure, a lot of people aren't able to trace their lineage back very far and maybe most of those people are too self-absorbed to care. i hope to live long enough to pass what i have been able to gather to my children and beyond.
so where you like to pretend and see life as death and rebirth, i choose to operate in a realm that doesn't require crashing and burning to thrive.
before i met my beau, i was SO HAPPY that i'd be able to pass on the positive knowledge of what it means to be a woman, to be black, to be born in the US...to love thyself as god made you. given my current dynamic, i've had to change the context of the legacy, but not necessarily the content. in short, i look forward to arming my generation with the tools needed to say "fuck you, i got this" to a world that denies them. you chose to give yours blinders. i hope they're stylish.
