I think Aquas are just very non-confrontational for the most part.
They just get quiet and passive aggressive.
As far as her venting to a mutual friend...it kind of seems like she wanted it to get back to you.
A bit sad that she couldn't tell you to your face.
When I found out my Leo friend said stuff behind my back... I didn't immediately confront her, I just waited for a good opportunity and was like "I know you felt a certain kind of way about it...wish you would have told me directly and I didn't have to find out from someone else...but I guess now's as good a time as any other to tell me..." She was a little defensive at first like "who said I said something about you? what?" But she eventually said how she felt and I responded and that was that.
Didn't solve anything...she actually runs her mouth about me all the time apparently...but whatever, I feel better having let her know I know. *shrugs*

Men should take the lead anyway. But control. Hmmmm. There's a fine line between taking the lead with controlling the relationship's direction and being abusively controlling.
Couples should conform some to each other. Not just the women allowing a man to control her.
I'm old school, and I will do whatever it takes to please my partner, but will draw the line at being controlled. It's all in the presentation.
For instance, I don't mind dressing a certain way because he likes it and appreciates it but I will refuse to do so if I'm told I have to.

The whole needy Cancer is BS generalization that I vehemently disagree with, but we are human, and do love affection. Doesn't mean we cling or cry for attention. That's utter bullshit.

I think the problem is that Cancers start out very similar to Scorpios in that we are very genuine and loving people who just want to have fun in life. We are both very close early in life but then start to drift away at some point. People say that Cancers are the funniest in the zodiac but Scorpios are actually the ones that are in all honesty. Scorpios usually have the same type of battlescars as myself so we always have a common ground when it comes down to it.
Usually both of our views in the world became warped because of childhood trauma and having to see the dark side of people and the world away from the home where people don't love you at all.We both had to develop a defense mechanism so that the things that hurt us can be held at bay better.
The way Cancers and Scorpios deal with it is what makes us different as water signs and what eventually causes the initial drift. A Cancer usually goes into their shell trying to piece together why the world is the way it is in a sulking mood while a Scorpio goes out and fights to get power and money so they don't have to be in a position of vulnerability. Younger Cancers are still offended and hoping for a train that never came. Scorpio knew it wasn't coming ages ago.
The root of the Cancer vs Scorpio aggression is because the Scorpio has let go of the past and the Cancer wants to remind them of it and who we both were before the world took a giant shit on us. Alot of Scorpions who had a bad childhood like to hurry and grow up and become an adult ASAP and be in firm control of their destiny. Thats how they handle it. A Cancer still wants to be a childlike creature who feels past happiness can be recreated with the same people, while Scorpio is smart enough to realize you can't redo the past, only live in the now and future. One thing you guys like in America is a decent kebab. Whenever my best friend tells me about the lack of any decent kebab in NY, I just think this can't be life.
