Yes people change
If what needs to change stemmed from some deep rooted childhood issue, change may take a little bit longer
There's no doubt that people can change. What's debatable & the million dollar question is WHAT makes people change?!
For some people they have to lose a loved one, get ill, lose financial stability, lose a relationship/marriage, run too many people off, or just simply be 'tired of being tired' in order for them to actually change
Changing is hard, especially b/c the biggest changes most of us need to make involve somewhat changing who we are.
And we're taught as a society to never change who you are for nobody, even if there's more to gain than there is to lose.
We're all taught that if others truly loved us, they'd love us & accept us just as we are.
That though is a dangerous message sometimes b/c believing those kinds of philosophies when change, inside & out is truly needed, hinders growth

As I have said on many threads I love a Virgo man but he wasn't into me. Oh he liked me and we went on a couple of trips together but I wasn't it for him. So I did the hardest thing for me and walked. I don't feel I have any power, however, I NEVER contact him. Since I left he's doing all the contacting and I'm not mean to him or anything but I'm very cordial. I mean I can't be just "friends" with someone I love; that would hurt too much. Why can't he understand this? A month and a half will go by with no word then he texts me that the only way we'd talk is if he reaches out first. What part of me saying I need time to get over you does he not understand.
Just because he's doing all the contacting I don't feel I have power. No. I don't have any power; but he's trying to have power over me by contacting every so often. But it's too late; nothing will ever be the way we were. Now I feel the urge to break out in song; anyhoo...

what? they're just trying to give people confidence and support.
There is a great big difference between confidence and support, as compared to knowingly pushing them into a delusional hell hole that was blatant from onset, then what you shared becomes nothing more than a mock up excuse.
In fact this would be a betrayal of sorts. What right does a friend have, to withhold the truth, because they know what is best for their friend better than they do themselves? That is entirely condescending, one should always lay the cards on the table, if one truly loves their friend and let them choose, to decide for themselves.
That is called respect, respect for them as an individual, who have their own thoughts, own choices, own decisions and trust that they will find what is best for themselves with the information at hand to arm themselves with (which you have given them, to help them on this journey).
