Big, expensive gifts are scary as hell. I most likely would have done the same thing. Even the OP realizes this after the fact.

Personally I would have recorded the doctor making that proposition and blackmailed him into the surgery.

Yeah, I read that too. The aircraft also had a repair done on it's wingtip so there is speculation about the integrity of the airframe. If the repair failed, it could have caused unplanned maneuvers including direction change.
i've lived in 5 different states, moved many more times than that. East coast, south, west coast and upper midwest, and the desert. both sheltered and rural areas as well as very urban and diverse.
