Actually, the heart is not as impractical as people like to believe. To follow your heart is NOT the same as following a desire. Giving into a possibly stupid desire or impulse comes from the mind and a conscious decision to let this desire overrule. It's not that simple of course as some are naturally more passionate, hot-headed or more impulsive than others. It's not a matter of the heart.
As a matter of fact, the heart is very accurate. Figuratively, the heart is only a dwelling, a dwelling for a feeling... be it love or hate. Lets say, an interpreter. The heart FEELS, but feelings are not generated from the heart itself. What is hidden in your heart? ... it plays into your passions, your actions but is responsible for them.
I guess that what I'm saying is simply that the *heart knows and perceives what your mind and logic cannot acquire on its own. They need each other. The phrase "Follow your heart" is really saying, don't ignore your feelings, don't ignore what you know...?
For example. You may love someone who you know cannot reciprocate, in your *heart you KNOW it. Things may be perfect to the mind and logic, that uneasiness is your *heart speaking because the mind will analyze but not feel or comprehend. Funny thing is that the mind can even trick you, the *heart makes no excuses, *it's sad. It's your robotic mind searching... searching... for excuses to make sense of what SEEMS fine. We read a lot about these concerns on dxp don't we?
It's about the word 'heart' really. But ya, listen to your heart.

Anyway, this reminds me of that dumb movie I watched the other day: Pirates of the Caribbean. Well if you noticed, Jack Sparrow gets lost/in trouble when he stops following his heart (what he knows is 'right'...?) I interpreted the magical compass to be his heart. Because the compass only points to where he truly wants to go. He surrendered to his dark desires, renouncing his heart if you will. The compass could no longer pinpoint an exact location because his heart wasn't into it. You can't truly put your whole heart/spirit into something your heart doesn't really believe. Another context to the word but you get me lol The words are just associated with perceptions, sometimes wrong or confusing but that's aside from the point.

3) People are spitting on the wrong side

Hmmm I think the struggle is probably coming from an unwillingness to listen to one or the other... both. We don't like the answer to our question. But life has so many predicaments that we find ourselves not doing what we know is best... can make you unhappy... sometimes it's just not realistic because it's not just about the ME... live and learn.
As far as emotions go, they're tricky and there's no clear cut way to manage them. I really think that the impulsiveness that comes with... can only be learned to be tamed with age LOL It's about the willingness to learn and grow as a person. We humans are complex creatures indeed but simple enough to understand lol
