A lot of the torment we go through with the ones we fall for is the because of the rational, logical approach to love that a lot of people take. A person who thinks his/her partner is ugly shouldn't be with that person. It is damaging to the person's self-esteem. Thoughts are active energies, and if you are sleeping with the person, you are taking in their negative thoughts and will make yourself physically ill.
On the other hand, love makes the homeliest person beautiful. If you make them believe in themselves, their true beauty comes out...

I have to agree...I don't like any kind of drugs. The body is a finely tuned instrument, esp. w/ Gems, and you don't want to mess with it.
Try more natural remedies...
Jogging (stimulates calming endorphin)
Beer, as you already know
Healthy, natural, raw foods
Bach flower essences...you may need to google this
Aromatherapy...lavendar is very calming
Mozart and Bach...
Meditation...
