I still think he's the focal point of the books despite not even having a chapter in the first one. He's the most evolving character. He was his hand. It getting cut off symbolizes a man who was immoral becomming moral but he breaks twice do to cersei before he kills her.
Weak symbolism and weak plot .
Also morality does not = boring .
On second thought I guess it does according to the show .
