It's all perspective. Prostitution is the oldest profession and if you think the foundations of acquiring a wife are not linked lol then let me break it down for you.

A women was once and some places still sold as property. Property of her father or other male members of her family. She is sold for soul purpose of producing children, caring for the home and to fulfill her husbands sexual desires.

Her "services" have been sold.

Prostitution at its foundation was a step towards women being able to liberate themselves from this vicious circle of dependency, yet it's always been an openly shameful profession. However the same men shaming these women were most likely the same men acquiring their services.

There are worse things in the world ? than a woman laying on her back and getting paid for it IMO.

From an historic point of view, in the US women were only "given" the right to work in 1920. Before that, if a woman didn't have a man to support her financially then prostitution was more or less her only option.

So it's only the last 100 years that it's become so frowned upon.
