Gaming is an addiction. Believe me. I was addicted for years. Non-stop playing. Living my life completely online. Never being social with friends. Only online friends. The guys all loved me. They loved all the girls. It was fun. But there’s more to life then online achievements and gamerscores.
So is smoking, drinking, etc, so many addictions out there 🙂

I think it comes down to having similar hobbies. If your hobbies match up with your s/o, then that's better than them not, obviously. I've pretty much only dated gamers. Which sucks for me because I'm not that much in to games. Most of the time spent with my partners involved us sitting in the same room doing our own thing. Which is fine every now and again, but not frequently or all the time. The ones who's only hobby was gaming were also lazy. House chores only got done when I brought it up to them.
Sure, gamers may be easier to locate, etc, but if they're really in to games and you're really not, eventually their hobby will become not so great of a thing.

How is this different than any other hobby? I ride horses and spend a lot of time and money on them. And I tend to socialize more with other horse people because I like talking about horses.
And when socializing i really don't like to talk about gamming...lool infact when i am with those guys which i use to play...i don't really like talking about it and i allways tell them to change subject...one thing is when i am killing time at home...the other is socialize 🙂
But i do understand that some people to take their hobbies very seriously and like to share their things with other people in other places...like you and your horses xD

Men that takes 2 hours ride to go to work...they come back home...go take their kids to their sports pratice..make food for his wife and kids when she comes late..go pick them up...wake up earlier to go with their kids to college because it's the first day on that train...etc, etc...
With one of them..i almost burst him into tears hehe...he was *cursing* about all he had to do and that he woldn't have time for himself hehe..i was smilling at him and simply said.."..you really are a good father..."
Now those are Amazing Man...Good Men..and you wold never believe they are all of that..they come of as very macho man on the outside ^^

i don't have any problemwith gaming as a hobby, but I have a problem with it as a culture, the culture is completely retarded, it's just feeding off itself to the point of becoming a monstrous mash of childish stories and self imitating designs. Just look at the banner picture on top of this thread to see how ridiculous it has become.
If oyu ask gamers what are the best settings or stories in videogame, some of them will name metal gear solid, or final fantasy, or assassin's creed, and that is really a problem because most of these stories are dumb af.
The problem is that they're seeping in other media such as books or movies, not because they're interesting or enriching, but just because of the amounts of money generated by the videogame industry

As for the comparisson bettween Movies and Games stories...i have to totally disagree with you on this one....in wich Transformers are we now ? 10th ? and those movies about super-heroes that are on the 16th by now....just....oh wait there is still a culture arround that.

Some of my best friends in life i meet through online gaming *shrug* We take turns visitng each other; either they come out here or i go to where they live. I have gone to comic cons, gen cons and fan faires, meet 20+ folks from different parts of the country that i have gamed with over the years, not to mention the thousands of other folks that attend. I know people that meet via game, meet up and have gotten married.

The negative connotation lies within the population of gamers that are obviously addicted- their lives suffer and all they do is stay plugged in. It's not healthy, okay, or normal.
People can be into gaming and there's nothing wrong with it, but it's the extent that it goes to. Do they know how to unplug for a bit and go be an adult and handle responsibilities? If they do, fuck yeah, keep on keeping on. If not, then drop the asshole, it's going to become a primary issue.
I mean really, people tend to run from those who are addicted to meth, coke, etc. But video games? All the fuckboy excuses in the world are used to justify it when people just want to paint it in a different light. Shit, people have actually died from their gaming addictions and have caused bodily harm to themselves from the excess.
It's a good for the OP that her dude seems to have his shit together. Experiences like that don't seem to be all that common based on feedback.

Usually new and other games coming out, but mostly about life, work, family, husband/wife, partners. kids and omg you guessed it sports .. gamers are no different than other humans lol The ones you are referring to don't even go to the conventions.
