Originally, marriage was instituted for increasing wealth and had nothing to do with love. It was an agreement between two families, really. The modern concept has romanticized it, but the divorce rate tends to keep it grounded in reality. When the modern concept "works" I'm sure it can be lovely.

I don't know! In the old days, you just married some ugly, old man you parents picked out for you when you were about fourteen, and then got your love on with the stable boy.
