I was there last month and will probably go again in a couple of months.

Vienna is my fave city in europe but there are so many beautiful places to see in Austria. I suggest renting a car if you have more time. Thing is vienna and salzburg arent that close and there are numerous magnificent places near both cities.

We may get a car but I checked the trains out and its a couple of hours journey...I love train travel
it's exactly 2 hours and 57 min with the westbahn. the best route. hop on in vieena and directly out in saltburg central station. salzburg is beautiful. the xmas atmosphere is nicer there; more traditional. and do try the salzburger nockerl!

language wise: most of us it speak it very well. it's mandatory in school and beyond ...

Thanks for the info Nem....very helpful, I was always drawn to Salzburg so may stay there as a base and travel to other places from there. Am intrigued about the nockerl lol, so will go read about it soon. 🙂
