I have a friend who has thousands of dollars in her account because it makes her feel good to have a cushion, yet she is thousands of dollars in debt. She is stressed because she doesn't feel like she can save money on our salary and pay off her bills. I asked her why she doesn't use the stockpile money to just pay off the debt. She said it just makes her nervous. I don't get that. Why have a pile of money just laying around?

I'd rather have my debt paid off than have a stockpile of cash.
She has enough money in the stockpile to pay off 80% of her debt but she refuses to do so.click to expand

Caps don't care about money, they care about status. If they could have status without money, they could care less.
I think a Taurus just straight up care about money more than a Cap does.

Yep, we all love money. But, what does money mean to you? Why the pursuit?
To me it equates security.
Thus, the lack of security is very scary and unsettling. Here's an example. Recently, my house sold and I was scrambling and planning for a place to live. It felt very scary and insecure not knowing exactly where I would end up. I had Plan A, B, C, D and even a plan E. But, in my heart, plans C, D and E weren't an option or a choice I would have wanted to make. Plan A's kept falling through. I thought I was going to rent and couldn't find any affordable, decent rental property. Had NO idea how expensive rent on a house would cost (small town, not many apartments in my area). Then, lo and behold, out of the blue, I found a house to buy that was cute, in great shape and affordable and it all worked out where I could move in the day I closed on my house (rented for a week or two until we could close on this one). The mortage is half what I could have rented a similar home for. I realized rather quickly, had I not had a good credit rating to purchase a house, my son and I would be living poorly or in a less than par house we rented or both. So, yeah, money (or, in this case, the ability to finance) made a big difference in my security level. And I have enough to put into my savings for a very hefty emergency fund. And that feels very secure.
So what does money mean to you?

Oh wait. This is the Capricorn forum.
Apologies. *bows and exits*

What? How do you figure that?
Caps are cardinal signs. Cardinal signs normally have big egos, and must let people know they are in charge. This is constant I've seen in Cap leadership. Very much busy bodies and love to micromanage things. Love to display their "ownership" of things, and love people who brown nose. I've seen about 3 or 4 small businesses run into the ground by Capricorn's leadership style . Again, the fact that the micromange so much creates a revolving door.
I've seen Taurus and other signs either not be as involved and were more hands off. People found working with them more enjoyable.
Why am I saying this? Because it shows you that Capricorns in most cases care more about the position and title instead of just using it to make money.
Give a Cap a big house, do you think they'll still try to make money? Probably not. If they can have the title and the prestige, they won't care as much about the money aspect.
I disagree with the perception that Caps are money hungry. They're status hungry. Status normally comes with money, which is why people linked the two together.click to expand

Here's the thing, though. If you have debt, cash, and cash flow (income), you can float the debt with the cash flow and maintain the cash. Cash is liquidity and liquidity gives you options. Having no debt and no cash is a far worse place to be financially than having debt and cash, even if they are equal. The most prudent course of action would be to save until the amount of cash available exceeded the debt by some comfortable margin and only then pay off the debt.

Same day as mine! I hear you about the debt but you've got to want something left over, yes?
Eventually I am sure I will also have a stockpile. But then I will not have any debt.
I barely have any debt as it is. I ran up some debt two years ago when I moved out that I am paying off but other than that, I have no car payment, I rent my home. I have a student loan that is half paid off but that is it.
People are always telling me to buy a car because mine looks like shit. It's 10 years old, has a couple of dents, and 178,000 miles on it. But it runs. Why do I give a shit what it looks like?
The Scorp keeps saying he wants a bigger house. We could afford a bigger house, but then we will be spending more time in the house because it is going to cost us more money. So I would rather spend the money enjoying ourselves and less on the house. Likewise I will buy clothes at the thrift store or on sale or with coupons to save money so I can enjoy more of my life.
I do have a little bit left over but I wouldn't just stockpile it for the sake of having it. My thinking is it takes me a lot of hours to make the money I have so I want to enjoy myself when i do not have to work.click to expand

micro-managing is power tripping. i dont think it has anything to do with a taste for status or money. it just means they have no idea what to do with their authority and perhaps lack inter-personal skills.
give me a big house and i'm just gonna want another big house some place exotic.
try as you may, you can't mirco-manage a cap. lolclick to expand

I'm in a lottery pool and we agreed that the winnings (mega millions) would go to buy land, a lot of land, for animals, homeless (mostly vets), and elderly with no place else to go/ no family. We figure everyone can take care of each other.
I know... I'm a dreamer sometimes.
I love this!i have a soft spot for animals, i want to rescue them all!!! lab animals, farm animals. i just can't stand to see the suffering i would love to have millions and have a thousand acres and keep them safe there

So is this why I may have a stockpile of cash lol.
Though having debt is something I'm interested in Stoic. To my own experience and knowledge it establishes a healthy credit rating. To the point my Cap sis seems to take advantage of because she's been thousands of dollars in debt for over a decade now but maintains a good rating.
Provided I'm not a Cap by core I do support the thinking. I still have my usual things to pay for that maintain it but I don't think for the life of me I've ever been in debt which is supposedly a miracle when you get to my age.

Well that's what I mean, my first property is something worked my ass off for, same with my car. Albeit I don't live in luxury like a mansion or own a porsche but it's always been out of my own pocket without a loan.

I don't agree... the interest alone is not worth that philosophy. If you can meet your budget and keep a bit of cash flow for just in case then debt is definitely a priority. I think a good balance is important.click to expand
