What's this, ladies, the Italian thread?! Lol I speak Italian (as a matter of fact, went to a concert yesterday and got chatting to an Italian man - this, in a small town in Middle England!) and my older daughter moved to Rome a week ago! I keep getting texts saying things like, "By the Colisseum!" or, "Looking for the Spansin Steps!" She speaks French and SPanish but always wanted to learn Italian so now she's au-pairing. Dirty nappies (diapers) in Italian at 6.30am - a wonderful incentive to learn the language!!

LOL reminds me of the time lesbianism hit the headlines when a soap featured a lesbian kiss (big at the time). My daughters came home asking what a lesbian was. "What do you know about lesbians?" I asked cautiously. "Nothing really - but I know it's really, really bad because of the way people were talking about it," they answered. Own goal for the soap, then... (They found out a year or two later that their Dad is gay, and were wonderful about it).
My daughters had the experience of being foreigners in a French school, Roxi. There was some bullying around that issue. Until I must admit, one day I went in and lied to the children. I said I had heard that someone was hurting my daughters, and that I'd be grateful if they could look out for them as the children concerned probably didn't know that in England there was a law saying that Mummies were allowed to come into school and smack bullies.
The ringleader (a gorgeou little lad, in fact) went bright red and muttered strong alliegance to my daughters. He he. I wonder what they tell their kids about Engliah law though, almost twenty years on?? Anyway, they stopped bullying!
