It crazy tho that the show has Lisa return to be obsessed with Brad and lock him in a cage. Then a year later, David starts to become more and more of a criminal. Then Sheila comes to town and really shows her true colors. Then Michael goes to his lengths. All within 4 years of each other lol. But I think its the best time period of the show.

Agreed. This was also when Brad transformed into the community penis. I think he's been with as many women on the show as Victor, but Victor never made his way through families like he did. Tracy, Ashley, Nicki, Victoria...Sharon(?). I didn't know about Lisa or who she was until you posted these clips.

I think Lauren wins the award for the most times being locked up in a cage by a psycho though. I had no idea she was locked up with Brad.

I never liked Michael though. Or his brother. Or that entire family. Thats when the show went to shit in the mid 2000s imo

I was never a fan of the Baldwin-Fisher clan either. I just fast forward through their part lol----I completely forgot to add Kevin Fisher to the villain list. That whole pedo-scandal with Lily.

Idk, the show got spicy when Phyllis and Nick started up. I did not see that coming given Nick is technically 25 years younger than Phyllis and Jack is 35 years older than Sharon lol. Then I lost interest again.

I’m waiting for the Sheila bit.

This.

One of the best villians on Y&R.

Was there anyone crazier than her on Y&R? Victor is ruthless but Sheila was a straight criminal and looking to kill people.

I had to ask my sister. There have been a few. Most of this is before I started watching this show, but I stream some of the old episodes. From what I can remember from best to worst:

Victor Newman (but we all love him).

Sheila Carter

Rose Deville*

David Kimble

Patty Williams

David Chow

Michael Baldwin (before prison)

Phyllis Summer (before losing custody of Daniel Jr.)

Daisy Carter

Tom Fisher

*I don't know who Rose is, but my sister says she was as bad as Sheila.

Phyllis is a badass. She’s my fav but even she’s not Sheila bad. Daisy Carter and Tom Fisher were both assholes. I completely forgot about Tom and his abusive ways with Kevin.

I don’t know who David Kimble and chow is...that’s before my birth. LOL. Let’s not forget Gloria and her gold digging ways with John.

Yeah Gloria was a gold digger, but not really a villain imo. The villains got "soft" after David Kimble. The writers tried to either make us feel sympathy for everyone after him or just made them gold diggers trying to prey on the "poor" Newman family.

Yes both Brad and Lauren were the biggest hoes on the show at this time lol. Always running through people. They probably needed to be locked in cages lol. Yeah I guess Lisa was the daughter of the rich man Brad was a pool boy for when he first came to town waaaay back in the early 80s. He married her when she was 16 and then his dad paid him to leave town. She was obsessed with him ever since lol.

I was also never a big fan of Phyllis so I guess that didnt help things. But I hated when the show basically threw away it's great younger set in the early 2000s (only rivaled by Days at the time) with Jt, Colleen, Raul, Brittany, Billy and Mac and the Baldwin-Fisher clan became one of the main points of the show. Once Drucilla was gone I was gone too.

I wasn't a fan of Phyllis either until she got with Nick. I think I have a thing for forbidden/scandalous relationships. Once they got together I was over it. Until he left Sharon again for Phyllis lol. And again lol.

I completely forgot about the brat pack. Not sure why they got rid of them....and Drucilla. You know they killed her off because she made a big public stink about how blacks are represented on the show. Executives weren't here for. That's why they killed her off in such a ridiculous and permanent way. You can come back from a coma 5 years later, but there is no coming back from being "accidentally" pushed off a rocky cliff. They let her know, straight up "you're out". She tried to sue the network.

I made reference to it during the DXP Mafia League with your dramatic hit and run scene. No coming back after being flattened by a car lol.

Yeah that whole situation was some bullshit. They utilized the black characters well in the 90s and even into the 2000's but yeah since then theyve wrote them badly. In the 90's the black audience for YR was so strong I think that is what helped them stay #1 in the ratings and hold off Days, AMC, and BB. They would help their slumping ratings a bit by bringing her back though. Days has brought back so many characters in ridiculous ways lol

I didn’t know they killed Drucilla for that reason. Although the cliff hanger death was epic. I honestly thought she would come back because everyone comes back from the dead on Y&R. I really enjoyed her and Phyllis’ quarrels.

The biggest hoes of the show are Sharon and Nick. Slept with in laws and spare no one.

The storyline I really liked was when Phyllis got with Ronan...except it didn’t fly when he got back in town. It was nice to see someone finally cheat on the cheater. LOL. Plus the storyline was hot. I stopped watching after that.

Paul and Cassandra discuss George’s death and his will. Victor tells the police about George’s strained friendship with Paul. Phillip is waiting to marry Nina, but she is in the hospital. Will she be okay to get married today?

April 4 1989

Leanne still has Victor fooled. Nikki and Ashley chat about Victor and Leanne. Paul and his mother argue about him still being involved with Cassandra. Paul’s dad then questions him about George. Jill thinks she stopped Phillip and Nina’s wedding…but did she?

April 5 1989

January 12 1989

Jill is very frustrated with David’s attitude at work. Lauren and her mother discuss Paul, and Lauren’s relationship with him coming undone. Meanwhile Paul’s mother tries to warn him off Cassandra seeing as she is married to George. George gets the bad news from his doctor that he has a terminal illness. What causes an argument between Jack and Jill? Who does Lauren go on a date with as she tried to get over Paul? Cassandra wants to be with Paul, but how will George handle the news of his illness?

*like*

Paul was the sharpest dressed detective I've ever seen.

Why did Paul and Lauren break up? Was it because of the very married Cassandra or some other reason?

Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Fenmore were quite the meddling pair...Mrs. Williams in particular was quite crafty at laying the guilt trips.

*sips tea* Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm....the snark from David. He seems bothered by the fact that Jill was simply breathing in his direction lol. Then there is Jack....*living for the 1989 shade*.

The fact that David is still sulking about the "break-up" means Jill either has mad bedroom skills or he's pissed because the potential gravy train is heading in a different direction.

Is Cassandra more worried about Brittany finding out she is having an affair with Paul or is she huffing and puffing because she thinks Paul will leave...? Regardless she needs to have a seat. Or get a divorce. Already.

Lawd, not here for Lauren dumbing herself down by calling herself a "girl" and acting "helpless/lost".

Why is George's medical diagnosis still a secret? The build up to nothingness.

Sucks to be George. He thinks Cassandra will be devastated at the thought of losing him to his mysterious diagnosis, while she's more worried about losing Paul's peen.

Jill's signature forehead scratch....funny how it has evolved from a nervous gesture to indications of her frustration and annoyance.

Chase...snake or shrewd?

Side note: Jill's hair was everything and Terry Lester was a much better Jack Abbott than Peter Bergman

At some point Lauren entered a nude photo of Paul into a contest without him knowing (why idk) and he became a magazine centerfold xD That stifled their relationship lol

idk where I stand with Terry Lester vs Peter Bergman since Peter ended up playing him so long, but I do think Lester's charm certainly made his Jack different and sometimes more likable

Well the YR consistency with eps that can be found online wont even out some until April 89 unfortunately, but here is some of the Caged Climax

Brad has come down with a major fever while stuck in a cage. This fever caused Lisa to let Brad out of the cage. Lisa goes to the store to get drugs for him. Brad took the opportunity to call a cab to try and leave, but he passed out from the fever. However, Lauren (who is meeting Jack for a ski trip) ends up at the same store as Lisa. What will Lauren’s suspicions of Lisa cause?

*love*

Why was Lauren and Jack on a trip together?

How did Brad end up on the floor---outside of the cage? I'm guessing Lisa fell for his (Leeb) charm.

Why does Lisa ask stupid questions *yanks Scorp card throws it in the trash*

I totally expected Lisa to kick Brad's limp body when she realizes he was trying to leave, but that would be too much lol.

*smiles* at the fact that Lauren left a note at a store for Jack and he actually received it. Life before cell phones....

Lauren is clearly smarter than that random that believed Brad was Lisa's mentally ill husband that needed to be locked away to protect the public lol.

How is it that Brad was out cold, completely unresponsive, but suddenly becomes conscious and can stand up at the sound of Lauren's voice? And can talk and ask more silly questions?

Love the fact that Lauren sees Brad passed out on the floor, next to a cage and thinks Lisa is just going to let her take Brad out of the cabin...

User Submitted Image I guess...

Hate the fact that Lauren was completely useless. If they were in a room instead of a cage she'd suck the air right out of it panicking. Annoyed at the fact that Brad had to take time from almost slipping into a coma *side eye* to calm her down.

Lauren asks Lisa the stupidest of stupid questions "how are we going to get out of here?"...dying at the fact Lisa actually responded with "you're not". Life before the side eye...

And it gets better LOL...

"In the name of God Lisa, turn that gas off...and let us out of here. please *cough cough* please don't frighten us this way"

*lowers scarf* "I'm not trying to frighten you Brad. I'm trying to kill you". Lawd....I spit out my tea!

Lisa is bat sh*t crazy *slips her a conditional Scorp card*

Jack isn't the best at flirting. Or seducing for that matter.

My, my, how Phillip has come around since the "she's nothing but a conniving, manipulative, good digger" days.

Leanne seems very worried. What is she hiding?
Nights, I know you don't like night time soaps, but I swear Jill and Katherine have nothing on Alexis vs Krystle from Dynasty (1980s version though). Alexis was the Queen of Shade and Krystle could go toe to toe with her without missing a beat. Can't really speak for the Dynasty modernized reboot.

I missed this post

I have seen the first few seasons of Dynasty and I will say it was better than what Ive seen of Dallas and Knots Landing because of that rivalry
April 7 1989

Cassandra is questioned about George and Paul. Jessica has bad news for John. Jill has some business quarrels. Phillip and Nina are happy on their honeymoon. Paul learns that George wanted him removed as executive of his estate. Lauren tells Tracy about Brad’s (fake) setback at the hospital.

April 10 1989

Leanne complains about Nikki and Victoria to Jack. Jack is worried Victor will figure out they wrote the Ruthless book about Victor. Victor spends time with Victoria and Nikki. Lauren and Scott get to know each other. Will Brad’s fake setback work on Tracy?

Posted by AfternoonDelights22

lmao I guess I better get to posting new episodes soon

*appreciate*

I'll have to come back to catch up though.
April 12 1989

Scott and Christine try and adjust to being half siblings after Scott tried dating her. Jack has great news for Ashley. Nikki wants to take Ashley out to paint the town red and pick up men. Victor has plans to take Jabot away from Jack and his family as revenge. What will go down when Leanne visits Nikki?

April 13 1989

Victor has been talked into spying on Nikki and Ashley as they try and pick up dudes. How will Nikki and Ashley’s night unfold? Jill has publicity plans for Michael Crawford. Jack and David discuss plans regarding getting Jill away from John for good. Will Jack and Leanne be able to keep Victor off of their trail?

April 5 1989

The Abbots talk about their lives over breakfast. The sore subject of Brad comes up with Traci as they are now divorced. Brad’s been in the hospital. Lauren whines that an attract man like Brad is in the hospital pining for Traci. Jack puts the moves on Nikki. Cassandra is mourning George, but her mourning is being questioned. Is Cassandra pulling one over on Paul or is she genuine?

*Doesn't Traci have her own business to mind? Why she so involved in Cricket's love life?...says the person watching a soap opera about other people's lives...*

When did goaties become trend in the office? I like the look on Jack though.

I'm sensing Paul has a Virgo placement. Don't quite know when to let people just drown in their guilt without throwing some logic at them.

If Lauren's motives weren't so transparent...a part of me appreciates her "I cape hard" for Brad my "bestie" (aka I really want that peen) position, but her approach just makes me say she needs to stay in her lane... there's a fine line between loyalty and mind yo' own got d*mn business.

Carl Williams is quite the sleuth getting "evidence" about George's motives without "getting evidence".

And marriage?

User Submitted Image

I swear to God this woman is all over the place...one minute she's suspicious of Paul, then she's grieving George death, then she has regrets about how things ended with George, now she wants to jump back on that peen and George's burial ground is still warm.... Cassandras a Fish isn't she? Winking

April 6 1989

Victor grills Paul about George. Can their arguing get to some truths? Jessica has two men fighting over her. Christine now has her father in her life. Is Traci fighting her true feelings for Brad? Will Brad give up on trying to get Traci back?

*like...but hate at the same time*

I'm positive a lot of Victor's power exist only because people give it to him. Why the hell does Paul care what Victor thinks or if he believes him? He seems to care more about that then his father or Cassandra believing him... Straight Face

"Look, I'm not telling you not to see my wife..." said by no Scorpio or Leo man, ever.

"John, are you warning me?"....lol wait, that was a warning?

Jessica's full of sh*t . Is she's really going to use Cricket's grown ass as an excuse to get back with her ex? She doesn't deserve John Abbott and his weak ass "I wish I could be a selfish man!" wishy washy ways. Then again, maybe she does.

George is one crafty bastard.

I never believed Brad's feeling for Traci were genuine. Or for anyone of the 100 women he was involved with afterwards to be quite honest.

"Cassandra was in Chicago when George was killed....*long dramatic pause for that extra umph*...So that puts your little theory in the trash where it belongs!"

User Submitted Image

Lauren clearly hit a nerve. Or Paul is still salty about his semi nude photo being entered into a contest....*shrug* lol

However, I find it hard to believe Paul is a detective given Nancy Drew---damn Inspector Gadget could have pointed out that Cassandra could have hired someone to kill George...

Aside: DQ's prices haven't increased that much since the 80s. I hope whomsoever did Cricket's hair was fired and her spray on tan was horrible. Not as bad as Trump, but... Tim has the creepiest voice, great for suspense narration and Paul can go from 1-1000 and then back to 1 and then back to 1000 again in a millisecond lol.

So...."scarcely a day has gone by" where Jessica hasn't "thought about and gotten down on her knees" hoping to "some how, some day" see Jim Grainger again... I wonder if she took a day off from praying and thinking about him so she could recite her vows to John.

Jessica's trash.

Is it just me, or does George and Cassandra's home look identical to what will later become Ashley and Brad's home? Same couch...same staircase, bookcase...same landing.

Tim is overly invested in Traci and Brad's divorce...? Tim....

On the other hand "look I don't care what my (overprice divorce attorney) Michael Crawford said. The fact is, Brad and I shared a life together . There was a time when that as very precious...."

She clearly doesn't have an air moon.

Jessica's trash.

Carl Williams and his sleuthing skills again *thumbs up*. I see you.

Jessica's trash.

I liiiiiiive for Jill's facial expressions, big 80s hair and shoulder pads. The hair and the shoulder pads needs to stay in the 80s, but I dig it.

Jessica is trash.

Paul needs to just let this executor position go. F*ck, doesn't Cassandra get everything anyway? Just makes him look guilty.

Aside: I'm curious, how exactly does Paul get himself out of this clusterf*ck? *no spoilers please*

Haha, I think I was hungry when I watched that, which is why I stopped at three videos. Hungry or tired = grouchy.

Hell, I hope her last days are filled with all the happiness and latex protected peen she can get. I personally think that peen should belong to the man that choose her despite of her illness, family discord and social rejection, not some Johnny come lately that wants to romanticize the idea of commitment. Dr. Grainger shouldn't even be a consideration. I guess my Scorpio is showing Straight Face..lol

lmao nah I def agree that she is being very annoying with John
April 25 1989

Jill is worried about Phillip not having a prenuptial agreement with Nina. Katherine is basically upset about the same thing. Victor still has a plan in place to try and purchase Jabot from John Abbott. Leanne overheard Victor plotting against Jack. Leanne has to disguise herself to go see Jack. Can Jill and Katherine actually get on the same page? Can Leanne and Jack figure out what Victor is really up to?

April 26 1989

Jack sure is happy these days. David wants to work directly for Jack in case Jill ever finds out what he is up to. Brad visits Chase in what was his old office. Brad has some warnings for Chase about Jack. Casandra learns that George had a terminal illness. Can Brad clear the air with John and Tracy? What accusation does Cassandra have against Paul? Is the pile on Paul too much?

Now that I’m home in self-isolation, I started watching y&r again. Good to know, Victor is still alive and remained with Nikki.

I heard that Phyllis is back with Nick. Main reason for watching it again 😁

The original Adam Newman was the best. Too bad he got fired.

Yeah the original Adam was the most interesting

Hated the 2nd one who played him
I feel asleep and missed RuPaul's Drag Race, so I'll watch a Y&R epi until a decent live stream comes up....

Did they ever give Lynn someone to love? I don't recall.

Aside from the obvious need to drag this out, the fact that Paul keeps harping about this Executor title I'm guessing fixed or Virgo moon. Move on or don't, no one wants to hear about it anymore.

"You were very convincing..." bruh, Scott needs to stop lying to Lauren. That was a horrible performance on the phone. She gets an A for summoning the tears on demand though.

Scott's lines...I guess they were on par for 1980s flirting.

OMG Victor's shoulder pads! LOL, is he a billionaire or a linebacker?

Lol, I can't believe they wasted so much time on Brad trying to manipulate Tracy. It may be the fact that we are living in the time of the rona, but I can't believe they wasted life saving equipment on Brad and this nonsense.

So if we are to understand this correctly...it took two episodes for Tracy to finally get to the hospital, a whole episode for Brad to put on an elaborate charade, but it only took 5 minutes to have important legal documents delivered to Brittany from an office I am going to assume wasn't just around the corner? Gotta love daytime drama lol.

PS Thanks for posting!

Okay, I got to get back into Y&R then. And please tell me Michelle Stafford is playing Phyllis. I just can't get behind this other chick.

I think you're referring to the second actor that played Adam (Michael Muhney) not the first (Chris Engen). Engen supposedly left because he was uncomfortable about having to play/pretend to be a gay character and get involved with Rafe (if I remember his name correctly).

I'm curious why Muhney was fired. Personally I thought he looked too old for the age he was supposed to be playing and looked angry all the time lol. I think the first one was the most interesting because of the character development at the time, same with the third (Justin Hartley). Justin is my fav.

Apparently there is now a fourth? If so, no spoilers on how he reappears pls. I want to catch up and figure out how he survived, a gun shot, being burnt to a crisp/drowning, plastic surgery and then being blown to sh*t, but Drusilla is still dangling off a cliff somewhere never to return...

Engan was the better actor

Muhney as Adam ate the show alive. He was fired for allegedly sexually harassing one of his co stars. He says differently. Never believed him nor never liked him
